Upon the journey of self REdiscovery, the voice of creativity has unraveled as a mirror to meet the divine. I was drawing, singing, dancing, acting since I could walk, talk, or pick up a pencil. The evolutionary urge to create is innate in the human being, we deeply desire to express and share the lens of our experience with those around us. To express and share beauty This healing journey, for me, has been intimately woven with the process and unveiling of creative life force. Mastering the refinement of immaterial into material form has been a greatest art of human kind. I was always creating as a child, through a series of events in my childhood that awoke alot of trauma, I slowly distanced myself from my imagination and desire to create at all. It was not until my senior year of high school that I took an art class for the first time since middle school. This was also the year that Yoga and I met, creating massive shifts in my awareness. As art and yoga began to take over, my awareness began shifting greatly. That year I began painting and drawing again, hosted a Podcast series about how our generation will change the culture and put together a weekend art gallery called 'Illuminate the Night' which featured local artists in New Jersey and student artists. A deep desire to share in the joy of creation sprung, and though along my journey I left art school to pursue energetic therapy, yoga, and alternative healing modalities, the voice of the artist within has been persistent, mirroring the voice of the soul.
“What I am seeking is not the real and not the unreal but rather the unconscious, the mystery of the instinctive in the human race.” ~ Amadeo Modigliani
To create is to be free, is to feel, interpret, and embody through whatever medium that calls to the individual. Art can not be limited to paint on a canvas or a song, to embody art is to be a living expression of divine life and love. We are creating our experience in every moment, to be human is to be an artist. To be human is to create and express as a channel for something beyond our self. All ways we show up in our life is a moment of creation, whether on your yoga mat, a walk in the woods, gardening, there is a guiding voice and wisdom that wishes you to slip into that secret garden and paint your experience in new colors. The mundane becomes your divine play.
"“Whether you succeed or not is irrelevant, there is no such thing. Making your unknown known is the important thing–and keeping the unknown always beyond you.” ~ Georgia O’Keeffe"
In a world with a society that has forgotten the value of the artists as creators of culture and change, in a system that feeds off of sickness and over productivity, that natural state of connection is replaced with dissociative patterns. When we go to create it can sometimes feel like we are facing the entire collective human shadow just to shake our hips or sing our hearts song. The inner child's wild landscape replaced with concrete streets and screens. Upon this journey of coming home, we return to the source of life, we return to a state of remembrance to or true nature. Remember what it was like to be a child, the innocent imagination and play, no tight grips on a sense of self, and as we grow these conditions begin to lay upon each other until that part of our self feels like its been squeezed into a small corner, left for occasional rainy days.
"Look at life with the eyes of a child.” ~ Henri Matisse
When we forget our relationship to the natural creative rhythm of life, our body mind and spirit accepts suffering as a natural state, leaving stress as a new normal. We can see this in our modern society, most of humanity striving for an unattainable goal that someone else said was life. In a past age of amnesia, we are emerging into a golden dawn of remembrance. The awareness of our true nature as divine, creative, wild beings, one and connected to the Universal source is sweeping the consciousness of the planet.
To create and value your expression in a world where it is seen as "crazy" or "unessential" is uniting artists with the inner warrior. As I went deeper into my healing and journey with yoga, shamanism, and the many pathways spirit guided me through, the more I realized the harmony between the voice of spirit and the vision of the artist.
“Where the spirit does not work with the hand there is no art.” ~ Leonardo da Vinci
